For more information, see the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.ncsu.edu\/cdsc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Copyright &amp; Digital Scholarship Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Each source that you cite in your paper will need to be listed in two ways:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>in the&nbsp;<strong>text&nbsp;<\/strong>or<strong>&nbsp;body<\/strong>&nbsp;of your paper<ul><li>Called a&nbsp;<strong>citation<\/strong>, this is a very brief mention of the original information source. Often, the in-text citation includes just the author&#8217;s last name and the date of the document.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>at the&nbsp;<strong>end<\/strong>&nbsp;of your paper<ul><li>Called a&nbsp;<strong>reference<\/strong>, this is a complete bibliographic description of the original source, which becomes part of a &#8220;Works Cited&#8221; list or bibliography. The reference gives the title of the original document and provides enough other information about it so that someone would be able to identify the item, if they wanted to locate and read it.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Common pieces of information needed include:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>author(s)<\/li><li>title<\/li><li>publication date<\/li><li>page numbers<\/li><li>volume number<\/li><li>issue number<\/li><li>publisher<\/li><li>location of publication<\/li><li>editor<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>How much and which pieces of information you need will depend on the type of resource you are citing.
