Steps in creating your summary-response

1. Identify the author’s purpose of writing
2. Create a yes-no question that could be answered using the information from the article
3. Summarize the sections in the article that is the most relevant to your question (in step 2) in the first paragraph (in present tense only)
4. Answer the question (in step 2) in your second paragraph.
5. Be sure to include appropriate citations

  2. Yes-No question: Should alone time as a concept be encouraged in a society that values extroverts?
  3. First paragraph: Summarize only sections 1 and 2 (most relevant to the question above).

Remember to:

  • have one topic = one paragraph
  • start each paragraph with a clear topic sentence.
  • organize sentences in each paragraph using old-to-new info idea flow
  • each sentence in a paragraph should relate to the topic sentence.

Write a reflective article in no more than two pages sharing your reactions to these questions. Use the questionnaire below to help answer the following questions.
