In the case where you have degree requirements in your Degree Audit that you believe you have completed successfully, but these transfer courses are not showing up like you expected (i.e. MA *** instead of MA 241), you may be required to request a transfer course evaluation. Here is a quick summary that will help you indicate whether or not an evaluation is required:
- Course(s) taken at NC Community Colleges: No evaluation is required.
- Course(s) taken in the U.S., but outside of the NC Community College system: An evaluation is required if the course is not already listed in the transfer equivalency database.
Should a course you completed require evaluation, you will need to submit a syllabus to the Coordinator of Advising in the NC State department that teaches that course or complete the appropriate form below so an evaluation can be completed to determine equivalency. A list of Coordinators of Advisors can be found here.
Below are some key departmental contacts you my need:
| Department | Representative |
|---|---|
| Chemistry Department | Dr. Marion Martin (mmarti24@ncsu.edu) Dr. Kirsten Kramer (kdaykin@ncsu.edu) |
| Computer Science Department | Complete the CSC Department Syllabus Review |
| First-Year Writing Program (for ENG 101) | Ms. Ashley Everette (ashlely_everette@ncsu.edu) |
| Math Department | Dr. Maitreyee Kulkarni (math-transfer-officer@ncsu.edu) |
| Physics Department | Dr. Zachary Lewis (zelewis@ncsu.edu) |
Requesting a Course Evaluation
To request a course evaluation, send an email to the appropriate contact for a transfer credit evaluation, attach a copy of the syllabus for your transfer course(s), and make note of which NC State equivalent degree requirement in your Degree Audit you believe your transfer credit could meet. (Sample email template)
This process can take weeks to complete in some cases, so you will want to start with courses that are critical prerequisites for the courses you need to enroll in for the Fall (Math, Physics, Chemistry, and Engineering major coursework should be prioritized for evaluations). You should save the GEP courses for last as they are the least critical for your enrollment in the upcoming semester and are not time sensitive.
Once you receive written approval via email approving transfer equivalency credit, you can forward that email to Dr. Mary Clare Robbins with the College of Engineering Academic Affairs Office at mrobbins@ncsu.edu (please only forward emails where the result was approval from the departmental contact) and include the transfer course(s) and equivalent NC State course(s) in that email.
