Inside Out Approach to Writing Lab Reports

The Inside-Out Approach to Writing Lab Reports

It makes sense to start writing your report section by section, starting with the section that you already know the most about. Most likely, you will be most familiar with the procedure of the lab experiment or study and the results you obtained, since this is what you did during lab session. For this reason, it is a good rule to start with the Methods and then the Results, working your way to the Abstract and Title. This “inside-out” approach provides a sensible and logical way of writing the lab report. You essentially start with the “inside” of the paper and work your way to the “outer” sections. The LabWrite guide for writing your lab report is called PostLab and it uses this approach.
