Course goals

Student will:

  • focus on various types of academic writing including, but not limited to email, reports, summaries and problem-solution texts.
  • review and practice advanced grammatical structures and tones common to each type of writing.

Course delivery and structure

The syllabus is organized around a weekly schedule that will begin each Thursday and end the following Wednesday. A typical week will cover a writing genre and relevant grammar points, but this will vary depending on the writing genres being covered.   Any assignments for a given unit will normally be due at the end of this weekly period unless otherwise indicated during the course.

By the end of the course, students will have prepared a writing portfolio on individual shared Google Drive Folder, which includes:
1 Reflection
1 Analysis
1 Extended Definition
1 Problem Solution
1 CV and Cover Letter

For each writing project:
The student will evaluate and reflect on their writing through peer review. These reviews will be included in the portfolio.
