Student Conduct
All participants in the Grand Challenges Scholars program must abide by the North Carolina State University Code of Student Conduct.
Transcript and Degree Plan
Applicants must have quality grades to apply as academic achievement is an important indicator of success in the program.
Applications must include:
- An unofficial NCSU transcript
- A semester-by-semester plan to complete engineering degree requirements, including summer plans, such as:
- Internships or co-op program rotations
- Study abroad
- Summer research experiences for undergraduates (REUs)
- Military training for ROTC programs
The Five Competencies
The curricular and co-curricular engagement of GC Scholars must be intentionally connected and coordinated with the five programmatic competencies from the start. Therefore, the formal application requires that students plan how they intend to align their educational experiences with the program’s objectives as well as how they focus on one particular Grand Challenge.
Applicants must plan ahead to develop themselves in each of the five competencies by setting their own goals. These goals must be expressed in the application by the following:
- Plan to develop the Talent Competency with sufficient depth
- Plan to develop the Multidisciplinary Competency with sufficient depth
- Plan to develop at least one additional competency (either Multiculturalism, Entrepreneurship or Social Consciousness) with sufficient depth
- Plan to develop in the two remaining competencies with sufficient breadth
- Plans and goals can (and may likely) change over time. However, applicants are expected to be thoughtful, reflective, and cogent in setting their own goals and making their own plans.
