Scholars choosing any one of the following options toward the Entrepreneurship and Viable Business Model competency must substantiate and contextualize how the course’s subject matter, approach, and/or learning objectives advanced their understanding of their chosen Grand Challenge.

Entrepreneurship at NC State

Courses offered by Entrepreneurship at NC State apply toward developing the competency, including the Engineering Entrepreneurship Program as the senior capstone design project.

Business Entrepreneurship Minor from Poole College of Management

The purpose of the Minor in Business Entrepreneurship is to engage students in the process of identifying, evaluating, and implementing business opportunities that focus on value creation.

Arts Entrepreneurship Minor from Division of Academic and Student Affairs

The Minor in Arts Entrepreneurship introduces students to a variety of methods arts entrepreneurs employ to make decisions about, plan, execute and sustain an arts or arts-related venture.

Nonprofit Studies Minor from the Institute of Nonprofits

The interdisciplinary Minor in Nonprofit Studies is designed to prepare students for careers in the nonprofit and social sectors, in both paid and volunteer positions.

Minors in Military Studies and ROTC Programs

Every branch of the U.S. military is represented on NC State’s campus and can offer Scholars both military studies as well as practical military training that address how the ArmyNavy, Marines, and Air Force have and will develop viable, real-world approaches to the Grand Challenges. The military studies minors are separate and independent of participation in any of the ROTC programs. However, ROTC cadets can easily add on a military studies minor to their engineering major.

Career Development Center: Co-Op Program

Grand Challenges Scholars can opt to join the Cooperative Education program and register for COP courses. A significant entrepreneurial or intrapreneurial experience that is related to their chosen Grand Challenge is necessary. HON 395 Honors Cooperative Education is also eligible.
