Unit 4.2 Urban Ecology – Group Final Presentation Sp26

  • Unit 10 – Ecology Work Week 2 – Groups will use feedback from Benchmark #2 to construct your Group Presentation following the Presentation Guidelines below during the Online Work Week 10.
  • Unit 11 – Ecology Work Week 3 – Groups will meet In Person during Unit 11 lab for a consultation with their TA on their completed Group Presentation for proper format, content and scope of the projects before recording their presentation for submitting their Final Presentation. **Attendance is required for all group members.** (There will be a 10 pt deduction for missing group members)
  • Group Final Presentation– Due by Friday 11:59 PM of your Online Unit 11 In Person Lab week. Submit the Presentation on Moodle with a url for the group recorded video/narration of the presentation on the front title slide.

Presentation Structure

  • Use PowerPoint or Google Slides to construct your presentation
  • The presentation should have a title slide with all presenters’ names included below the title. It should also present all aspects of your project with 1-3 slides created to summarize information for each section of a Lab Report sections (Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion and References). Refer to LabWrite as a reminder of the information that belongs in these major sections.
  • Some sections may only need one slide (ex. Title slide, References), other sections may be better served by including two or three slides.
  • Include all references for the primary literature you used in a References slide.  While a minimum of two primary references are required, you should also list any secondary literature that you used.
  • As when writing a Lab Report, include in-text citations for any references you use within the Intro and/or Disc sections, or other areas where the references are used. If using images that are not yours, cite below the image.
  • If using videos linked to any slide, use/save a video on YouTube and link on the appropriate slide.
  • **URLS for all videos need to be linked on the PPT title slide, along with a passcode. Moodle will not accept video files.**

Recording your Presentation

  • You will be using Zoom to record your presentation. View instructions for using Zoom(opens in new window).
  • Link your Zoom presentation video to your presentation’s title slide and include the Access Code.
    • The video link may be linked to the Zoom cloud (you would select “record to the cloud” in Zoom OR to a personal Google Drive folder (you would select “record to local drive”) you share with your lab instructor. Be sure you provide any access codes needed to view your presentation, or your lab instructor will not be able to grade it.  You should NOT put your presentation video in your lab collaborative Google Drive folder since everyone can see that.
  • Your lab instructor needs to be able to see all of the materials included in your presentation slides and hear you present it.  Including a small insert of the speaker is ideal (this can be set up on Zoom).
  • Each person in the group needs to present a part of the overall presentation. The Narrated presentation length should be no less than 8 minutes and no more than 12 minutes.
  • Refer to the Grading Rubric for the Final Group Presentation.

Ecology Group Project Peer Review – due the same day your group submits the Ecology Presentation by 11:59 PM.

  • Use this Peer Evaluation form(opens in new window)   to evaluate everyone in the group based upon their contributions to the group project. Each group member will fill out their own form.
  • Submit your completed Peer Evaluation form in Moodle at the bottom of the “Lab Unit 4: Ecology Project” prompts -see place for you to upload your Peer Evaluation – this is for each student to upload individually.
