Be successful in lab by following these policies for attendance.
NOTE: Please view the material under the menu heading, “Lab Course Format” before you continue.
- Attendance in lab is required. It is important that you attend the In-Lab session of lab each week and participate in group work.
- Please contact your laboratory instructor as soon as possible (ASAP) if you need to miss a lab session, or are otherwise unable to complete any part of lab.
- Arrangements may be made for make up work for legitimate and/or documented excused absences due to illness or required University events. You have to coordinate this with your laboratory instructor within 24 hours (or in a timely manner) in order to be eligible to turn in graded work for a lab you did not attend. The sooner you contact your instructor, the sooner they may be able to help you from falling behind.
- If you have more than one (1) unexcused absence from the Laboratory, you will receive no credit for the laboratory portion of your entire BIO 181 lab grade.
- If you are unable to attend In-Lab part of lab, you will need to complete all of the In-Lab work on your own using the Online Module. You will need to clear this with your Lab TA so they can provide you with the In-Lab assignments to complete for an excused absence. These assignments will be due during your regular lab day and time unless you have a verified reason for an extension to the due date.
- The Pre-Lab Assignments should still be turned in at the start of your regular lab time, even if you miss the In-Lab. The Post-Lab Assignments will also be due within 48 hours of the scheduled lab start time.
- Keeping up with assignment due dates will aid your understanding and progression with the materials in each lab unit. Many of these assignments build upon the skills and/or materials presented in previously submitted work.
Please be sure to communicate any absence issues with your Lab TA in a timely manner. You may be asked to verify your absence using the NC State Absence Verification Service in order to be allowed to turn in assignments outside of the regular due dates.
