E115: Intro to Computing Environments
Prepares students for using the computing and technology resources available at the College of Engineering at NC State University.
E 115 is offered in the Fall, Spring, and Summer terms as an online hybrid course. Students will watch recorded lectures, complete assignments online on a set due date schedule, and be able to use in person (or virtual) office hours for additional assistance.
In Fall and Spring, there are two sections: 301 and 302. Students who will finish their CODA requirements in the first semester or students taking a CSC 11* class should take E 115 in the first semester. All other students may take the course in either the Fall, Spring, or Summer but should aim for the Spring semester when possible.
E 115 – 301
E 115 – 301, which meets in the first eight weeks, is fully reserved for students also taking a CSC 11* class, as it is a required co-requisite. E 115 can be taken before or at the same time as a CSC 11* class. Students should put E 115 – 301 and CSC 11* in their shopping cart at the same time in order to enroll in both courses. Only students coming in with significant amounts of credit should be enrolled in a CSC 11* course in their first semester.
E 115 – 302
E 115 – 302, which meets in the second eight weeks, is open for all other engineering students. If you will NOT be eligible to CODA in Fall, it is absolutely okay to wait and take E 115 in the Spring semester.
The E 115 instructor may move some students from section 302 to 301 as space allows. Students who are moved into section 301 will not be required to take a CSC 11* class. As schedules are adjusted seats may become available throughout the summer; with this in mind it is recommended that students check for E 115 availability throughout the summer.
Students are able to adjust their schedules until classes begin in August, so it’s okay if your schedule isn’t set in June.
